Gajner Palace stands imposingly like a jewel in the Thar Desert on the shores of the Gajner Lake. It was built in the early 19th century on the embankment by His Late Highness Maharaja Ganga Singhji of Bikaner. Built of intricately carved red sandstone, this palace is surrounded by six thousand of acres of a preserved wildlife sanctuary. During the winter, its beautiful lake and surrounded wooded areas become the home of different species of migratory birds, most renowned amongst them being the Imperial Sand Goose. Endangered antelopes like Black Bucks, Nilgais, Chinkaras and other animals like the wild Boar roam freely in the area.
There are 11 historic suites and 28 well appointed rooms open to travellers. Authentic game recipes have been adapted to create “Shikari” dishes out of chicken and mutton. One can experience the true romance of the desert in the comfort of Gajner Palace.
